ELON MUSK AND WARDENCLYFFE SCIENTISTS
The entire team of the Tesla Science Center at Warden-clyffe (TSCW) - the only remaining laboratory of Nikola Tesla, was awarded the title of Tesla Ambassador, a recognition that took place on the occasion that acknowledged eight decades of the culture of world commemoration and Serbian scientist established by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic. Ambassador Ljiljana Nikšić presented them with the award at a gala dinner on Long Island, which was attended by about 300 prominent Americans, including engineers, scientists, doctors, local Suffolk County leaders and senators. The title of Tesla ambassador was awarded to Nikšić by the Ilona Maska Foundation for an outstanding con-tribution to the preservation of Tesla’s laboratory, from 2013 until today. As she emphasized, along with the title, they were also presented with a sign with Nikola Tesla’s monogram and cufflinks with images of two of the greatest Serbian scientists- Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin.
The first million dollars for the Tesla laboratory was donated by Elon Musk in 2013. Since then, every year, he has contributed 150,000 dollars, and in the final stage he will generously donate another five million dollars because he wants to build the largest tower in the world, the “Tesla Tower” in the place where it was located “ Wardenclyffe” on Long Island said Ambassador Nikšić. Mark Alessi, executive director of TSCW pointed out that, considering Tesla’s Serbian origins, it is a great honor for them to receive this title from the Republic of Serbia.
Tesla was proud of his origins, so it seems appropriate that one of the first countries that approached us to help us in our mission to restore his historic laboratory was Serbia. We hope that other countries will do the same. This year we launched the construction of the Tesla Science Center in Wardenclyffe. As a reminder, the construction of Tesla’s laboratory began in 1901 and was completed in 1902. The construction was financed by J.P. Morgan, but this great tycoon gave up further investment, so Tesla left Long Island in 1906. To our question whether the restoration of Tesla’s laboratory is supported by the companies, banks and foundations of Morgan and Edison, and in light of the stormy history of their relationship during his lifetime, Mark Alessi replied: “Neither the company J.P. Neither Morgan nor General Electric is involved in the restoration of Tesla’s laboratory. However, we remain optimistic about their future support.” Legend has it that Anne Morgan, daughter of J.P. Morgan, deeply loved Tesla. She even wanted to marry him. Maybe that was the problem in the Tesla-Morgan relationship.
“Tesla wanted to unite the world through innovation, and we can work to further his mission by connecting the innovators in his lab. We are very grateful for the support we received from many people from Serbia, but also from the Serbian diaspora around the world,” Mark Alessi concluded.
