EDITOR’S NOTE - SAN 39
SAN is celebrating a big anniversary this year - ten years from the first published is-sue. SAN created a “brand” and the reputation of a unique and high-quality Serbian-Canadian magazine, and for a number of years, the only media of its kind in this geographical area. For the last ten years the magazine has been regu-larly published in print and digital four times a year, along with the sanmagazine.ca website, where archived and new content can be read. SAN’s mission was and remains to nurture and maintain Serbian ethnic identity, language, cul-ture, history, art and tradition. In each issue, SAN represents the Serbian diaspora not only from Canada but also from the world, as well as highlights successful organizations and individ-uals. In addition, we write about current topics in contemporary society with special reference to Canada. One of the missions of the magazine and website is to promote Serbia and Serbian values.
In this issue, we have prepared rich content from the Serbian community in Ontario. The next school year will be the commencement of a historic event; the first Serbian private ele-mentary school in Canada will officially start operating. We spoke with the founders of the school on the occasion. There are also reports on our church in Richmond Hill, and the local winter gath-ering of Serbs in High Park. I would especially like to point out the ambitious and extremely significant book for diaspora, ‘Literary Chronicles from Dispersion’, by Katarina Kostić. Writer, poet, jour-nalist and former president of the writer’s association Desanka Maksimović from Toronto, who along with her, has dedicated decade-long cultural contributions in Canada. She is also a perma-nent contributor to our magazine. This book represents a valuable chronicle and historical account about the literary creativity of the Serbian diaspora in Canada over the past few decades.
Amid historical events in Serbia, although we are apoliti-cal, we offer an original presentation event from the perspective of the young participants of the protests in Serbia, and through the prism of our young journalist from Canada.
In this issue, as usual, we cover interesting topics in the regular sections such as Trending, Canada, Toronto, Homeland, History, Finance and Real Estate, New Destinations, to name a few, as well as interviews with successful and deserving Canadi-ans of Serbian origin.
For spring, we are preparing a big jubilee double issue of SAN, in honor of the ten years of continued success!
