Serbian Young Professionals (SYP)

SYP (or Serbian Young Professionals) is a Toronto-based organization that meaningfully connects young Serbs who live in Canada by organizing various social and professional events. SYP is a non-profit organization and is financed with the help of volunteers and donors.

Growing up in Toronto, three young women—Milesa Ćirović, Mila Novaković, and Nataša Jelenić—had the opportunity to socialize with other Serbian children through folklore, Serbian school, and dances. However, after graduating from university, the ties to the Serbian community slowly started to break, and were virtually non-existent except for the occasional parties held in nightclubs. Milesa, Mila, and Nataša decided to organize events that would satisfy the needs of young professionals in the Serbian community.

The organization SYP was founded in 2012 and continues to grow with the constant support of the community.

Today, SYP events are organized around a central theme, and range from smaller meetings in places like Rakia Bar and restaurant Valdez, to larger events like a boat cruise called “Srbi na splavu” (Serbs on a Splav) and collecting money to help the victims of the floods in Serbia and Bosnia in 2014. They have also organized food drives for the Mississauga Food Bank.
